Scarface To Receive “I Am Hip-Hop Award,” Celebrating His 25+ Year Legacy

Scarface is Hip-Hop. He was even on a 2012 collaboration with Nas, DJ Premier, and DJ Khaled that said so. The iconic Houston, Texas MC will be honored this year with the “I Am Hip-Hop Award” at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. Taped at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta on October 9, the ceremony will air October 13 at 8 pm EST. This year’s festivities will be hosted by Uncle Snoop Dogg, who collaborated with ‘Face a number of times, perhaps most notably on 2000 single “WW III.”

This honor follows a busy year for the man born Brad Jordan. Earlier this month, Facemob released Deeply Rooted, his twelfth studio solo LP. The album was a #11 debut on the Top 200, and features Nas, Z-Ro, Cee-Lo, and John Legend. He toured extensively in spring and summer with his groundbreaking group, the Geto Boys. Additionally, Scarface published memoir, Diary Of A Madman in April of this year.

Past winners of the “I Am Hip-Hop Award” include Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, Russell Simmons, Ice Cube, Salt-n-Pepa, LL Cool J, Rakim, MC Lyte, and Doug E. Fresh.
